July News - Lake Desire Community

July 31 Updates
1. Lake Desire Summer BBQ/Open House NEXT TUESDAY August 6th at 6pm at the Clubhouse – Join your neighbors and friends for this fun evening of community building and potluck eating. Bring a dish or drink to share and camp chairs if you have them – last year we ran out of room at our tables we had so many people. We will provide burgers and hot dogs and plates/utensils. We are looking for anyone who has time to help set up, please reply to this email. Also, anyone know of someone who could volunteer doing something fun for the kids (facepaint? Balloon animals?). Added bonus this year – you will get to see the new flooring at the Center. See you there! Questions? Email staffordlkdesire@gmail.com.

2. Wine/Beer Tasting Fundraiser – Saturday, September 21st 5:30pm – Join us for our Fall Fundraiser this year, wine and beer tasting at the Wine Alley in Fairwood. We have amended the evening to include both types of fun refreshments! The Wine Alley graciously offered us more space in their shop for this evening, so spread with word with your neighbors and friends outside Lake Desire so we can get a great turnout.
Cost is $20, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the capital fund at the LDCC to help cover the costs of the new flooring. Please RSVP to this email, staffordlkdesire@gmail.com or phone 425-917-0336.

3. Lake Desire College Student available for mowing and odd jobs – My name is Austin Wetherbee, I'm a college student whose family lives on Lake Desire and am looking for odd jobs and yard work to make some money. 4. Upcoming Lake Desire Community Meeting – August 27th 7pm at the Stafford House – Mark your calendars to join us for our next community meeting, relocated to the Stafford House. Have any items to add to the agenda, need the address to attend the meeting? Please reply to this email.

5. House for Sale
Submitted by Jen Samson, our neighbor: House for sale on the lake: main house and boat house has been updated very nicely.  Perhaps someone on the lake has a relative or friend that would love to purchase and "live where others vacation." Flyer attached and a link to a video here: http://animoto.com/play/l3ilIR5NIT8el30WcyHplA. For more information, you can reach Jen at scrappyrunner@thesamsons.net.

6. Fairwood Library Renovation - Thanks to Tammie Cook who sent us a note about the upcoming Fairwood Library renovation. The project is yet to begin, but it looks exciting with an additional 5,000 square feet of space planned. Check out the link to the library page regarding construction plans: http://www.kcls.org/bond/fairwood/

1. Lake Desire Summer BBQ/Open House coming up! Tuesday, August 6th at 6pm at the Clubhouse – Join your neighbors and friends for this fun evening of community building and potluck eating. Added bonus this year – you will get to see the new flooring at the Center (see item 2). See you there!

2. Clubhouse Flooring update – We are very close to being done on our flooring renovation at the Clubhouse with just a few more details to be completed (cove base molding in the bathrooms, kitchen and installing a new toilet). We have new laminate floors in the main room and hallway, and new vinyl in the bathrooms and kitchen. Picture attached.  This flooring update was both courtesy of volunteer efforts (thank you to the Smith family, Tom Fish, Tom Stafford, and the Gillett family), as well as a fantastic job done by Great Floors who went above and beyond to remove carpet that was adhered with super strong glue in order to put down the new laminate (http://www.greatfloors.com/; 425-251-0200). If you have need for a flooring update at your own home, please give them a call and let them know we sent you.

These improvements will greatly improve the clubhouse’s appeal to renters (check out our website http://www.lakedesire.org/, we had a very busy spring with many rentals.)  Thank you to our rentals coordinator, Heather Smith, for her tireless work coordinating these rentals. This rental income makes it easier to “keep the lights on” at the Clubhouse. If you have a need to rent the center, go to the Lake Desire website and click “Rent Clubhouse”.

3. Shady Lake Burglary
At approximately 8pm on July 8th, a male burglar entered the home from an upstairs window facing the lake.  He climbed to the roof from the driveway.  A female remained near the road most likely as a lookout.  The homeowners were actually home on their back patio at the time.  Once the burglar realized this he exited the house back to the roof, jumped, and took
off running.  The female most likely left the scene in a black or maroon older Chevy Impala vehicle (license plate unknown).  It is unknown if anything was stolen.  Police were called but did not find the suspects.

Male suspect is described as a black man, around 20 years old, approximately 130 pounds, wearing jeans, a black jacket, and white tennis shoes.  The female suspect was black, appeared pregnant, with short hair wearing a bandana, and talking on a cell phone.  She told a person on the street that she had car trouble.  She was also seen coming back to the road from the lake side of the house that is for sale.  If you have any further information regarding this incident, please call 911.

Again, if you see ANY suspicious activity, immediately call 911!  Also, email us so that we can pass along details to the neighborhood. Follow up:  People closely matching the suspects were seen today (Tuesday, July 9th) around 4pm walking along Petrovitsky Rd between Shady Lake and The Parks.

Please be on the look out this week as they may continue to be in the area! Submitted by Shady Lake Communications contact.
